Serendipitet
Det fænomen at man kan have held til at gøre værdifulde opdagelser eller få nyttige informationer uden systematisk at søge. Begrebet henfører sig til dette citat fra Sir Horace Walpole: Letter to Sir Horace Mann, 28th January 1754: ”This discovery indeed is almost of that kind which I call serendipity, a very expressive word… you will understand it better by the derivation than by the definition. I once read a very silly fairy tale, called The three princes of Serendip (Serendip = Sri Lanka); as their highnesses travelled, they were always making discoveries, by accidents and sagacity, of things which they were not in quest of”.
